Hello, everyone. Here is a general re-cap of what was discussed during our last meeting on Wednesday, April 24th.

Sign Up for Participation on 2013 August Brigade Now Closed

The first $250 contribution fee was due on April 30th, 2013. This means that everyone planning to participate on this year's brigade should have at least $250 on their empowered account. The sign up sheet for the August 2013 brigade is now closed, but if you're just finding out about Brigades at Foothill College, we can also use more help! We're always looking for members to help with fundraising, raising awareness and new members to participate in the August 2014 brigade.

Step by Step Guide for Brigaders Now Available

During our last meeting, a few of our members expressed that they were having trouble getting started on their personal fundraising and what they should be aware of as a Brigader. Gabe has been so kind as to draw up a general guide that outlines the basics such as general information on Global Brigades, fundraising through empowered, pre-trip preparation (passports and vaccinations), etc.

Use this guide to answer any of your general questions. If you still find yourself unclear on a certain subject, please do not hesitate to contact Gabe or myself. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Please pay particular attention to the passports and vaccinations portion of this guide. We still have a few months before our brigade, but renewing your passport (if needed) is a lengthy process and vaccinations require a certain amount of time to act effectively. The health clinic at Foothill College offers the vaccinations required to participate on the brigade. Feel free to visit their website for prices and time intervals required for each vaccination.

Fundraising

Medical/Dental Brigades will be participating in yet another De Anza Flea Market on June 1st. This means start collecting donations from your friends and family, clean out your closet, and hit up the free stuff section on Craigslist. Our past president, Yasmin, was able to get us a double wide spot, so let's look into setting up a face painting station again. While you're scouring your homes for things to sell, keep in mind we still need old suitcases that can be donated to ship our medications over to Honduras.

Once again, don't wait for the club to tell you to hold events! This is a group effort and if you have any ideas, please bring them forward! I, personally, would love to hold another benefit concert and more tabling events on campus. Let's all make this happen.

Cheers,
Hana Arumi
