Congratulations to all of you! It's so great to see members that wish to assume more responsibilities and become more involved in the club. If you were unable to attend the election meeting and you did not get the chance to run for the position you wanted, no worries! There will be plenty of opportunities for participation when we begin forming committees for fundraising, PR, and obtaining medical/dental supplies. Also, the role of Secretary and OBD Representative are quarterly commitments. So, if one of these positions was one you were shooting for, there's always another chance next quarter.
Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28th, 2012. Same time and location as usual: 12PM - 1PM in Room 5302. During this time we will discuss
Fundraising: Let's get the ball rolling as early as possible! So, come wearing your brainstorming caps! I have also emailed a Donation Request Letter to all of you to use as a template for asking for contributions from friends and family. We can discuss this letter further during the meeting if there are any questions.
Forming Committees: Fundraising, Outreach (PR), and Attaining Medical/Dental supplies are all huge jobs and will require entire committees. Here we will discuss heads of committees and who will assume positions in each committee.
Location and Date of the Next Brigade. Our choices are currently between Honduras, Panama, and Nicaragua. I will prepare a short presentation discussing a bit about each country and the pros and cons of having the brigade in each one. Hopefully it will help us all come to a consensus.

Hope you are enjoying your long weekend. First off, a big thank you to everyone for coming out to our info meetings last week. It was great to see so many people interested in our cause. Remember to keep reaching out to your friends and classmates about Medical Brigades. I can’t stress enough just how important it is in these early months of planning to get the word out and increase our roster size.
Next, our officer election meeting is this week on Wed, from 12pm to 1pm in room 5302. The five positions open to nominations are listed in detail below. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please come to the meeting this week prepared to give a very brief presentation introducing yourself and telling us why you want to run. If you are interested in running but cannot attend this meeting, I would encourage you to email me and Hana with a statement or something that we can present on your behalf at the meeting. It also might be a good idea to post something in advance on our Facebook group page or post a comment on the blog to campaign for yourself. Also, if you would like to vote for someone but cannot attend, please email your vote to me and Hana and we’ll see that it gets counted.
IMPORTANT: In order to run for officer or be a considered a voting member of the club, you must be registered with our group on empowered. Go to www.empowered.org/Medical-Brigades-at-Foothill-College and click on “Become a Member” to join.
Vice President of Medicine: This office will be run by two people as Co-VPs. The duties for this position include coordinating the acquisition and storage of medications and medical supplies for the brigade. This will include outreach for donations and recruiting a Licensed Health Professional to maintain and provide storage for the medications and medical supplies.
Chair of Education: The duties for this position include coordinating educational workshops for members preceding the medical brigade (vital signs training, and Spanish lessons), and coordinating the educational presentation (the “Charla”) that we will be performing for the children on the brigade.
OBD Representative: This position is a quarterly commitment in which you will serve as our representative to the Foothill College Organization Board of Directors (OBD). You will need to be available to attend the weekly OBD meetings on Tuesdays from 12pm to 1pm.
Secretary: This is a quarterly commitment. The duties for this position include taking and recording meeting minutes, and keeping the member roster up to date.

Coming up this week we have our first information meetings. These are open to anyone who might be interested in taking part in the group and or running for an officer position. We'll be going over all the basics about who we are and what our goals are for the year, and well share a little bit about our recent brigade to Honduras. I really encourage you to reach our to your classmates this Monday and Tuesday and let them know about these meetings. Ask your professor to let you address the class or post the meeting times up on the board. We want a good turnout, so let's make it happen!
The meetings will be taking place on Wed from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, and Thurs from 4:30pm to 5:15pm in Room 5302.
